Minimalist Christmas Nail Art to try this year

Minimalist Christmas Nail Art to try this year

To be completely honest, with everything that has taken place this year, it has been difficult to find motivation and inspiration to create fun and crazy nail art looks. Christmas time is usually a great source of this because there are so many ways you can approach nail designs. For instance, keeping it simple with a red or green base, adding some glitter or going all out with snowman designs (check out my look from a few years back). I definitely was not in the mood for a flashy and over-the-top look this year but I still wanted to pick up my brush and do something nice. This year I decided to go for a more minimalist approach but still adding a pop of Christmas cheer. Here are two simple Christmas nail art looks you can recreate at home.

Minimalist Christmas Nails – Simple looks to try out this year

Polka dot Christmas Tree Nails

I created a similar version of this a couple of years ago based on a bauble style tree I saw in Canary Wharf. This is the more simplified ‘I don’t want to go all out still want to keep it Christmas style’.

1) Start off with a clear base coat.

2) I went with a mushroom shade for the base. Any colour will work but going for something light will make the tree stand out more.

3) Using a green nail art pen, paint a small triangle on each nail.

4) Now for the fun part! Using your dotting tool and any choice of colours you desire, add small dots inside each triangle. You can fill up the whole triangle or play around with negative space.

5) Using a dotting tool and gold (or yellow) polish, add a dot on the top tip of the triangle to repsresent the star on top of the tree.

6) Finish off with a top coat.

Silver Star Christmas Nails

For the second look, I wanted to go with something fun and light that still fit with the festive theme. I went with bolder colours that are typically associated with Christmas.

1) Start off with a clear base coat.

2) Paint each nail using red polish.

3) Using a thin nail art brush and grey polish, paint a star on each nail. I decided to play around with space here with some stars being centred and some placed to the side.

4) Using a black nail art pen, outline each grey star for a bolder effect.

5) This step is optional but I decided to add a bit of sparkle. Using a silver glitter polish I painted a very thin coat over the grey star.

6) Finish off with a top coat.
